The draft Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) and the construction of the panchayat ghar dominated the gram sabha of the coastal village of Colva on Sunday.
The meeting chaired by Sarpanch Anthony Fernandes saw members raising the controversial Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) and the status of the draft plan being prepared by the panchayat body with the help of the local experts and
w students.
The sarpanch explained that the panchayat will effect changes in the plan by incorporating the suggestions received from members, including changes to show the sluice gates in the plan.
Given that the government would send the draft Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) back to the panchayats for discussion and incorporation of suggestions, the sarpanch said whatever suggestions need be included in the plan will be done so as and when the draft plan is received by the panchayat.
The construction of the panchayat ghar dominated the meeting with gram sabha members raising a host of questions on building a new ghar at the existing panchayat ghar site.
Members drew the attention of the sarpanch to the resolution passed by the gram sabha in the past to look out for a bigger space to house the panchayat ghar.
They contended that the panchayat ghar, if built at the existing site, could throw up problems of vehicular parking and other isuses.
Sarpanch Anthony explained that the panchayat ghar plan put up by the panchayat has received approval, with the authorities now asking the panchayat to pay the infrastructure tax.
He later told the media that since the panchayat has no other land at its disposal to build a new panchayat ghar, the panchayat at its body meeting will take a final call on the question of location of the proposed
panchayat ghar.
