The police booked houseowners under Section 188 and arrested seven persons whose activity was found suspect during a drive against unverified tenants at Auchit vaddo in Tivim on Saturday.
The suspects have been identified as Chandan Kumar Gond (29), Sikandar Ali (23), Meraj Ahamad (19), Arshad Husen (22), Tasour Husen (26), Kishan Gupta (20), all of whom are from Uttar Pradesh and Anil Singh (19) of Madhya Pradesh. All are presently staying at Auchit vaddo, Tivim.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Jivba Dalvi said that during a drive to check unverified tenants, a team of Colvale Police led by PI Somnath Mahajik searched the area of Auchit-vaddo also known as Lala ki Basti in Tivim.
He said the police personnel visited house to house, rounded up around 50 persons who had not filled their tenant verification forms and brought them to the police station for further verification.
Police also registered FIRs against houseowners under Section 188 (disobedience to order promulgated by public servant) for not getting the police verification of the tenants.
“This type of tenant verification drive will be randomly conducted in other areas too within the jurisdiction of Mapusa Sub Division for the purpose of effective policing and to conduct 100 percent of tenant verification,”
Dalvi said.
House owners, contractors, guest house owners etc have been strictly directed to fill the tenant verification of each and every tenant and submit the same to the nearest police station.
“The tenant verification drive was conducted to create awareness in the minds of the general public about the importance of carrying out Tenant Verification to prevent crime and for swift detection of crimes by apprehending and arresting accused persons with the help of information provided via Tenant Verification forms,” a police official said.
Police said the drive was undertaken keeping in mind the crimes reported in various parts of the State and it was found that mostly the migrants and labour class were involved in the crime.
