Former Superintendent of Police (Anti Corruption Bureau) Bosco George has lodged a formal complaint before the CB against former Deputy Inspector General of Goa Police Vimal Anand Gupta in connection with the allegations of bribery leveled against him.
ACB has approached the chief secretary in deciding whether an offence can be booked on the basis of the complaint.
It may be recalled that the then ACB chief George had submitted an enquiry report after Director General of Police Dr Muktesh Chander ordered the ACB to probe the allegations which had surfaced against Gupta. A police sub-inspector had alleged that the then DIG Gupta accepted a bribe in order to close a departmental inquiry initiated against her.
However, it was only after the Lokayukta took suo motu cognizance of the matter that the Goa Police department decided to lodge a formal complaint before the ACB.
Former DIG Gupta was relieved by the government on December 5 following allegations of corruption. In the week leading up to this decision, Goa Police had suspended the services of Lady Police Sub Inspector (wireless) Devyani Ambekar and Police Constable (IRB) Chetan Naik. Allegations had surfaced that the two had offered bribes to the then DIG seeking closure of separate ongoing inquiries.
