With water logging witnessed around the new court building at Merces, locals have said the area is turning into a breeding ground for mosquitoes and have appealed to authorities to take necessary actions to ensure the water does not remain stagnant.
The locals made the plea during an inspection of the area near Alua Hotel on Tuesday, which was attended by Merces panchayat authorities, and officials of PWD and WRD.
The complainant John Nazareth informed that due to the construction of the court building, the natural flow of water has been affected.
"No provision has been made to ensure smooth flow of water, due to which stagnation has been observed around the court building thus turning the area into a mosquito breeding ground," Nazareth informed.
"So, our demand is that authorities concerned should take immediate action in the matter and build a Nullah to take the water to the river," Nazareth demanded.
Merces Sarpanch Sushant Govekar said the panchayat will write to the court authorities as well as the GSIDC to take corrective measures to prevent water logging from taking place.
"In the meanwhile, the panchayat will remove all the blockades that have taken place due to dumping of debris so that the water flow is not affected," Govekar said.
A large number of villagers remained present for the inspection and they also demanded that immediate measures have to be taken to prevent water logging from occurring.
