Residents in Morjim and Chapora have deplored the display of posters at the Chopdem Junction for parties along Pernem’s coast on the occasion of Independence Day.
Responding to public anger, Agarwada-Chopdem Sarpanch Sachin Raut took note of these posters and removed them from the Chopdem junction. The nationalists have congratulated Raut for his action.
Suraj Chodankar, headmaster of Vasant Vidyalaya in Siolim, condemned the display of these party posters, claiming it as an act against the nation.
“Independence Day should be celebrated with great respect, rallies and Har Ghar Tiranga slogans. Students are staging rallies and spreading awareness in society. The atmosphere is that of excitement and pride. However, obscene banners and posters of parties displayed at the Chopdem junction are spoiling the mood of citizens,” said Chodankar.
He lauded Sarpanch Sachin Raut for his prompt action to remove the banners and posters.
When contacted, Agarwada-Chopdem Sarpanch Sachin Raut said such posters disrespect the country and are sending wrong messages to students.
“Organising parties on Independence Day without taking permissions should attract action from the Deputy Collector,” said Raut.
