The North Goa District Congress President Vijay Bhike on Saturday censured the BJP and its coalition partners in the government for trying to score political points over the Mapusa MLA’s death.

“It’s not even 12 days since the passing away of Babush, but some leaders have started debating on fielding a candidate in Mapusa,” Bhike said.

The North Goa District Congress President was addressing a news conference in the district office in Mapusa on Saturday.

He said the BJP-led government treated Babush so badly that he was unceremoniously removed from the cabinet when he was undergoing treatment in the US.

“Surprisingly, some of the ministers in the Goa government were in the ICU, but Babush was removed when he was undergoing treatment in the US,” he said.

Bhike said the Mapusa MLA always supported the BJP till his last breath, but ironically today some of the BJP leaders appeared to be happy that he is no more. “Some of the tall leaders of BJP have started laying foundation stone in Mapusa when not even 12 days have passed after Babush’s death,” he said.

He said he along with other members of the Congress critiqued the Mapusa MLA on several issues but not when he was not keeping well and undergoing treatment.

“We never raised a word against Babush when he was not in good health and undergoing treatment. We respect humanity and never tried to take political mileage at the cost of someone’s health,”

he said.

It may be recalled Goa Forward Party President Vijai Sardessai had made statement that he would back Babush’s son, Joshua, to take forward his father’s legacy.
