The Congress on Saturday for the umpteenth time trained its guns on the government over the mining ban in the State.
Outlining the long list of ruling party leaders’ promises to resume mining activity in the State, Congress spokesperson Adv Yatish Naik, addressing the media at Congress House, asked what had happened to Union AYUSH Minister Shripad Naik’s promise of making known a solution by February 15.
“Where is Shripad’s mining solution that was supposed to come by February 15?” asked Adv Naik, pointing out that different BJP leaders were saying different things with regards to mining, while the Chief Minister was silent on the issue altogether.
Adv Naik also demanded why a delegation of leaders had gone to Delhi to meet the Prime Minister to brief him about the mining scenario in the State, if the final decision was to be taken by the State government and not the Central government.
He said that if a true sustainable solution to mining was to be arrived at, then the BJP-led government needed to go.
“We fully support the mining dependents, and they have our full support for their strike on February 26,” said Adv Naik, adding that every problem, including the mining problem, had a solution. But that it was the government’s lack of intentions to solve the problem that was stopping them from finding a solution to the problem.
Meanwhile, the Goa Mining Peoples’ Front (GMPF) have called for a bandh in the State on February 26 in light of the government’s “hollow promises” to resume mining in the State.
The aggrieved mining workers have appealed to all people to join in and extend their support to the strike.
