BICHOLIM
Mining workers on Saturday sought the support of Mayem MLA Praveen Zantye and shopkeepers of the Bicholim market for the
Goa Bandh planned on February 26.
A group of mining dependents submitted a memorandum to Zantye and requested him to participate in the Goa Bandh and also appealed to him to meet Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar as part of efforts to resume mining activity in Goa.
Assuring his full support to the mining workers, Zantye also promised to
raise the issue with BJP leaders on Monday, during a meeting with MLAs of the mining belt to discuss the issue.
Some mining workers blamed the government for failing to resolve the mining issue and accused some politicians of giving false promises.
They warned that the BJP would be made to suffer in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, if the party failed to give a clear and concrete assurance to the mining dependents.
Later, the mining workers convened a meeting at the Bicholim market and sought the support of the shopkeepers and vendors for the Goa Bandh on Tuesday.
Leaders of different parties and people representing associations lent their support to the mining workers.
