Asserting that the Congress party is bracing up to contest all 40 seats in the coming election, AICC Secretary Girish Chodankar on Monday launched a scatting attack on Defense Minister, Manohar Parrikar for fooling Goans on the promise of zero tolerance on corruption, demanding to know how the BJP has opened doors for a person like Mauvin Godinho, who was labelled as a corrupt politician over a decade ago.
He further said that Babu Azgaonkar’s decision to quit the party was not surprising given that the former MLA was alerted by the party leadership that he will not get the party nomination for the Pernem seat.
Addressing the media in the presence of South Goa district president Subhash Faldesai, Chodankar has said that Parrikar had hogged the limelight by accusing Mauvin Godinho for the power theft and granting subsidy to the power guzzlers. “This so-called crusader against corruption went to the people seeking votes and has today taken into the BJP the very same person accused of corruption”, he said, while demanding an apology from the Defense Minister for fooling and misguiding the people.
On Babu Azgaonkar’s decision to quit the Congress, Chodankar said that Babu was told by the Congress leadership that he would not get the party ticket on account of indiscipline and anti-party activities. “Babu had lost the 2012 election by a huge margin. Recently, he had abused the party ticket contenders at the Pernem block meeting. The workers had complained to AICC Secretary Chella Kumar on Babu’s arrogance and indiscipline," he said, adding that the Congress would field a new and young face in Pernem in the coming election.
Replying to a question on alliance with like-minded parties, Chodankar said that the Congress is preparing itself to contest all the 40 Assembly seats, adding “the question of alliance will be answered at the appropriate time.
