The ongoing Ganesh festivities brought Congress Legislators and leaders together as they assembled at the residence of Margao MLA Digambar Kamat on Friday noon coinciding with the second day of Ganesh Chathurti.

Congress leaders, however, insisted there was nothing political about their presence at Digambar’s residence, saying they were all invited by the Margao MLA for the Ganesh pooja.

Most of the party MLAs, including Leader of the Opposition Babu Kavlekar, former Chief Minister Luizinho Faleiro, besides State Congress president Girish Chodankar attended the pooja followed by lunch.

Sources said the Margao MLA had invited the party legislators and other leaders for the pooja coinciding with the second day of Ganesh Chathurti.

GPCC President Girish Chodankar, however, told The Goan there was no politics discussed at Digambar’s residence as the visit by the MLAs was purely religious as they were invited by the Margao MLA for the pooja ceremony. “There was no politics discussed at Digambar’s residence. MLAs just came and went after attending the pooja. Some of the leaders had come in the morning, while others made it a point to join the ceremony in the afternoon,” Girish said.

He parried a question over the developments unfolding in the ruling camp. Sources in the know, however, said that the Congress leaders are keeping a close track on the ongoing developments in the ruling camp.

“We are watching the developments unfolding in the coalition government. Let us only wait and watch for the moment,” a Congress leader told The Goan on Friday.
