CANACONA
Alleging that illegal digging is going on to lay cables at Karmlaghat, Congress leaders in Canacona on Thursday objected to the activity and claimed it would aggravate the already treacherous and accident-prone zone of the NH66 highway in Canacona.
Members of Canacona Congress Parivar and Youth Congress rushed to Karmalghat area where the cabling work was in progress.
“On the one side, collectors of both districts are issuing notification not to dig roads during the monsoon as it creates obstacles for smooth flow of vehicular traffic/cause accidents during the monsoon. But we think these notifications are issued only as a routine formality and not for implementation, as digging work on the road and roadside is still going on unabated in rains also,” claimed Goa Pradesh Youth Congress Sr Vice President Vaishanav Pednekar.
“Due to faulty road work, many accidents have occurred on Karmalghat. Motorists need to take extra caution while driving due to sloppy road shoulders and now on another side, big pits have dug to lay cables, which makes it worse for drivers in the rainy season,” claimed Pednekar.
