Cong raises objection to retired PWD engineer issuing work orders

PANAJI

The Congress party has filed a complaint against a retired executive engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD), accusing him of continuing to sign work orders and bills even after his retirement.

Sunil Kauthankar, Vice-President of Congress, claimed that Vilas Tamboskar, who was the Executive Engineer of Work Division XX in Bicholim, has been signing work orders and payment bills despite retiring in May this year.

Kauthankar said the Congress party discovered this unusual situation while investigating road tenders, prompted by the poor condition of potholed roads. He stated that Tamboskar issued a work order for a new project and signed several payment bills after his retirement.

According to Kauthankar, Tamboskar issued tenders three times, even during the period when the Model Code of Conduct for the Lok Sabha elections was in effect. He mentioned that despite filing a complaint with the Vigilance Department, no action has been taken, which suggests that Tamboskar is being protected.

Kauthankar also alleged that Tamboskar has been given a contract-based extension in the Directorate of Panchayats, but continued to issue work orders from the PWD. He expressed concern that there could be other engineers and government officials involved in similar activities. A formal complaint has been lodged with the Vigilance Department, with a copy sent to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

Kauthankar warned that if the state administration does not act on the complaint, they will take the matter to court.
