Accusing the State government of injustice to Goan youth regarding employment opportunities in the State, the Congress party on Thursday said the BJP is only fooling the people in the name of job fairs.

A Congress delegation led by GPCC President Amit Patkar with Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao and MLA Altone D'Costa met the striking workers of a company at Verna Industrial Estate.

"The most important thing is that the BJP is responsible for the workers to come on the roads. The BJP in 2012 under the leadership of former CM late Manohar Parrikar had announced that they would give allowances to unemployed youth but even after three more assembly elections and BJP still in power, the unemployed youth have got nothing,” said GPCC President Amit Patkar.

“I want to challenge Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to provide us the data of the allowances given to unemployed youth.”

Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao said the Congress would extend support to Goan youth who had lost their jobs.

"It is almost a week that these workers are striking with the management to regularise their jobs after having dedicatedly worked for three years. The insensitive BJP government is silent on this issue when there is unemployment in the private sector,” said Alemao.

“Industrial estates had begun for the benefit of Goan youth but these companies have now started employing people from other states. Congress had allocated Rs 500 crore for the employment of the youth but the BJP Government is only fooling the people in the name of Jobs Fair. We will fight the issue of unemployment because the BJP has no data on this and was caught off guard when we raised this issue in the Assembly," said Alemao.

Quepem MLA Altone DCosta said Goan youth had been facing uncertainty in the hands of the BJP government.

“The BJP must come out and tell us whether they will remain silent or favour the Goan youth who have built this company from the scratch since inception but have now been removed and have no future. This land belongs to Goa and the Goans must get maximum benefit from the industrial estates set up on Goan land," said D’Costa.
