The Congress has hit out at the Shiv Sena for the criticism that Quepem has suffered on the development front during the tenure of MLA Babu Kavlekar.
Addressing the media, Barcem Zilla Panchayat member Kushali Velip and Barcem Sarpanch Arjun Velip pooh-poohed the claim made by Rakhi Naik alleging that Quepem constituency has suffered on the development front during Kavlekar's tenure. "We want to clarify that Quepem has witnessed all-round development. That's the reason why Kavlekar has won as many as five elections till date. We fail to understand on what basis Rakhi and the Shiv Sena has levelled the allegations against the Quepem MLA," both Kushali and Arjun Velip told the media on Saturday in the presence of senior Congress leader Subhash Faldesai.
Kushali in particular said that the Quepem MLA does not require a certificate from the Shiv Sena, saying the people of Quepem know what Kavlekar has done for the constituency for the last 20 years.
On the Shiv Sena's claim that unemployment has not been solved in Quepem constituency, Kushali demanded to know how youth from Sanguem constituency has got government jobs in recent times.
Sena condemns Mauvin's statement against panchayat secretaries
MARGAO: The Shiv Sena has condemned the statement of Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho blaming the secretaries for the rampant corruption at the grass root level bodies.
Shiv Sena leader Rakhi Naik told the media on Saturday that it is unfair and sad on the part of the Minister to shield some of the corrupt panch members who have been the main reason for the worsening panchayat bodies, directly affecting the day-to-day life of the people. "The statement by the Panchayat Minister will come as an encouragement for those unscrupulous panch members," she said. She pointed out that Shiv Sena had in the past encountered a similar situation when despite exposing the alleged illegalities by Neturlim panchayat, there seemed no action taken against them.
The Shiv Sena has demanded that the Panchayat Minister tender an unconditional apology to all the Panchayat secretaries as many of whom have worked for the betterment of panchayat bodies without indulging in corrupt practices.
