MARGAO
Goa Forward party chief Vijai Sardesai on Wednesday said the Congress should come clear and tell with which political party or groups the party hopes to form an alternate government in the State.
Sardesai, however, asserted that he and his Goa Forward party is solidly behind the Manohar Parrikar-led coalition government.
“Let the Congress tell with whom the party will form the government in the State if the leaders are confident of forming an alternate government,” Sardesai said, when asked to react to confidence displayed by Congress leaders that the party may return to power in 2019.
The Goa Forward party chief said he does not see any change in the sentiments or perception of the Congress leaders towards the other political players in the State. “Hence, I do not know how the Congress party will form an alternate government with no change in their sentiments towards the other political players,” he said.
When his attention was drawn to the statement made by former Chief Minister and Congress leader Digambar Kamat that the Congress may return to power in 2019, Sardesai shot back saying “Digambar may say so many things. He was in favour of an alliance with the Goa Forward party in the run up to the Assembly election, but the ground reality turned different. There were reports that Digambar was in favour of forming a coalition government with support of the regional players, but that too did not materialised. I really do not know what is being hoped by Digambar has the support of the Congress leaders.”
Saying that certain Congress leaders are preparing ground for mid-term polls in the State, the TCP Minister said the Goa Forward party is all ready to face the electorate if the mid-term election becomes a reality.
“I really doubt whether the Congress leaders are in favour of forming a government when the actions of some of the party leaders show they are preparing ground for a mid-term election,” he asserted.
