Cong slams govt for crumbling infrastructure amidst rains

PANAJI:

The Congress on Friday slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party State government accusing it of corruption and negligence reflected in the collapsing public infrastructure in just two days.

In a statement, the Opposition party said a truck and a bus caved into roads weakened by haphazard and unscientific digging for underground cabling and this alarming situation exposes the utter disregard for public safety and accountability by Pramod Sawant’s administration.

"The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee strongly condemns this 'Ati Mahabhayankar Pad' Goa BJP government which is endangering the lives of Goans every single day," the statement said.

"This is destruction packaged as ‘Viksit Bharat’. Roads are dug up and left unrepaired, endangering motorists, commuters and citizens alike," it added.

The party demanded a full safety audit of roads affected by underground cabling works, fixing accountability on contractors and officials and a time-bound plan for road restoration, shared transparently with the public.

Cong chief Kharge coming for

Statehood day celebrations

PANAJI:

Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge will be coming to Goa to attend the Statehood Day celebrations on May 30.

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President, Amit Patkar said, he and Opposition Leader Yuri Alemao met with Kharge in Delhi to discuss party affairs where they had extended the formal invite.

"During the meeting, the Congress President graciously accepted the invitation and confirmed his presence, which will be a moment of immense pride and inspiration for the people of Goa and the Congress cadre alike," Patkar said.

Patkar said detailed discussions were held on the prevailing political scenario in Goa during the meeting where the misgovernance and anti-people policies of the BJP-led government and the growing public dissatisfaction across the State were deliberated.

Patkar also said that the roadmap for the 2027 Goa Assembly Elections was also discussed at length focusing on strengthening the Congress organisation from the grassroots level and presenting a credible, people-centric alternative to the BJP.

"The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee looks forward to welcoming Shri Kharge Ji to the Statehood Day event and reaffirming its commitment to protect Goa’s identity, democratic values and the rights of its people," he said.
