PANAJI: Alleging that the government is reluctant to promote police inspectors serving the department for the last 18 years, the Congress on Wednesday threatened to approach the courts if the cops are not promoted by December-end.
Congress has also demanded the regularization of 29 Police Inspectors who are still working on ad-hoc basis for several years.
“If something goes wrong, the police inspectors are suspended immediately but they are debarred from the promotions due,” said Congress Spokesperson Urfan Mulla in a press conference at the party headquarters in Panaji.
Under-recruitment rules, 50 per cent of higher posts have to be filled with promotees.
The issue was raised earlier by the police inspectors who wrote to the Chief Secretary seeking that the recruitment rules be followed, but the government has ignored the demand, alleged Mulla.
Some batch mates of these officers in other department have got promoted and risen to respectable posts such as collectors, which is a source of much resentment in the police ranks, he said.
Direct recruitment of the DySPs will increase the financial burden on the government, Mulla cautioned.
If the government does not promote officers till December-end then we will approach the High Court in January, he added.
