They may be ‘rivals’ seeking the Congress party ticket to contest from Canacona constituency, but GPCC General Secretary Janardhan Bhandari and GPCC Secretary Mahadev Dessai have displayed unusual unity and have even been campaigning jointly in Canacona.
“Our unity is an example for Congress ticket aspirants in the entire State. It's first time in the history of Congress party in Goa that two party nominees are jointly going along with the Canacona block congress, Mahila Congress block and Congress youth block on a campaign trail even before the party has allotted ticket,” said GPCC Secretary Mahadev Dessai.
“This is a model for Congressmen to follow in other constituencies. The Congress in Canacona is a united house to oust the BJP and the turncoat politicians.”
A month ago, Desai started the booth-wise door-to-door campaign in Cotigao and has since covered Gaondongrim, Shristhal and Agonda.
“Both Desai and I along with block leaders sought blessings at Shri Mallikarjun temple, Shristhal and St Thereza of Jesus Church, Chaudi, before beginning our joint campaign,” added Bhandari.
It may be recalled that following the recommendation of two names by the Canacona Congress block, a clarification was later issued by AICC Observer Prakash Rathod stating there are more than two nominations for the Congress ticket in Canacona, but he had not specified the additional names.
This led to strong reactions from Dessai and Bhandari, who claimed that any other aspirant for the Congress ticket in Canacona should first contribute to strengthen the party.
“Our unity is an example for Congress ticket aspirants in the entire State.
