Cong to contest assembly poll with full strength: Luizinho

Says party open to alliance with like-minded parties, to organise 16-point programme in every constituency

BICHOLIM

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Luizinho Faleiro stated that the Congress party will contest the forthcoming assembly election with its full strength and is open to an alliance with like-minded political parties. He also expressed confidence that the voters will not pay any heed to the hollow assurances of the BJP in future. He was speaking at the public meeting of Congress party activists at Mayem on Sunday. Opposition leader Pratapsing Rane, women front president Sunita Verekar, Mayem block Congress committee president Anand Naik and others were present. “The Congress party has decided to contest the forthcoming assembly polls with its full strength and is open to an alliance with like-minded political parties in Goa to root out the MGP-BJP led government in the State. This time, the Congress will make no mistake in choosing the right candidates in right constituencies,” stated Faleiro. He further said Congress will organise 16-point programme in every constituency to have interaction with the people. “Though Congress committed some mistakes in the past due to some reasons, the same have been corrected now.” “BJP has totally failed in solving issues like mining imbroglio, anti-labour policy, drug trafficking in coastal areas, control on casinos and providing jobs to 50,000 youth as mentioned in their agenda,” he said. He called upon the people not to fall prey to hollow assurances of BJP and requested them to vote the Congress party by a thumping margin in the forthcoming assembly polls to have real development in Goa. In his speech, opposition leader Rane said though BJP distributed bulbs, it is of no use as there is an exorbitant hike in electricity bills. He said to solve the issue of Mayem custodian, it was not necessary to make a new law as the Act of 1989, which gives full right to the tenants, already exists. Congress leader M K Shaikh called upon the Congress party to go ahead by giving due priority to grass-root level candidates. Aparnadevi Rane asked the activists to work unitedly, while women front president Sunita Verekar said the party has decided to regain its lost glory by meeting each person by visiting house to house. Block president Anand Naik, Vishwanath Dhawaskar, Sandeep Mainkar, Atchut Gawas, Mahesh Yende and others spoke at the meeting.
