Two days after the Margao court rejected the discharge applications filed by the anti-coal activists, Goa Forward chief Vijai Sardesai has demanded to know why the Congress turncoats who have joined the BJP have not got the Goa government to withdraw the cases foisted against the activists in the Chandor midnight protest case.
In fact, Sardesai reminded that when he had supported the Manohar Parrikar government in 2017, he had ensured that the attempt to murder case registered against the priests and villagers of Velim in the Velim Church attack case was withdrawn by the government.
In fact, Sardesai told the media that the Congress turncoats seemed to have forgotten the Chandor midnight protest case and the issue of coal as evident by the recent government decision to increase coal handling at the MPT.
“When we had formed the BJP government in 2017, I had got then Chief Minister late Manohar Parrikar to withdraw the attempt to murder case foisted against the priests and villagers of Velim,” he said.
He added, “In the Chandor case, the district Collector had already closed the road in question for traffic in order to lay the double track. Where is the question of the people closing the road? This is nothing but harassment.”
He said it was the duty and responsibility of the Congress turncoats including Digambar Kamat, Aleixo Sequeira and Sankalp Amonkar, besides Independent MLA Reginaldo Lourenco supporting the BJP government to tell Chief Minister Pramod Sawant that there’s no merit in the Chandor case and get the case withdrawn.
Condemning the harassment meted out to the anti-coal activists, Sardesai said the politicians including himself should know that they too had participated in the Chandor midnight protest on November 1-2, 2020 and are liable to be charged in the case with the police invoking Section 149 of the IPC.
