Cong undecided on pre-poll alliance

PANAJI

The Congress party is still undecided about a pre-poll alliance with like-minded parties opposed to the BJP and insists it will be “battle-ready” in all 40 constituencies in the State.

“Whenever a decision is taken, you all will be informed. As I said, our present effort is to get the party battle-ready in all 40 constituencies and we are going about it in a systematic manner,” Congress election observer P Chidambaram told reporters.

He, however, did not rule out any pre-poll alliance with like-minded parties who are opposed to the BJP.

Chidambaram refused to comment on the entry of Trinamool Congress (TMC) to contest elections in the State.

"I do not want to comment on other political parties, I can only speak for the Congress party. You are free to draw your own conclusion. As far as I'm concerned, the Congress party is a pivot of the non-BJP opposition and the Congress party will contest these elections with the absolute confidence that we will win the elections. How we will win the elections, you will know later,” said Chidambaram.

Meanwhile, journalist Dilip Borkar joined the Congress party with an aim to defeat the BJP.

GPCC President Girish Chodankar accused the State government of being an anti-Bahujan Samaj government.

“The RSS ideology is against the Dalits, STs and OBCs. What we have been saying all this time has been endorsed by the high court's order (striking down reservations for post-graduate courses at GMC),” he said.

“This order of the HC has actually exposed the anti-Bahujan mentality, attitude and policies of the BJP government in the Centre and the state,” said Chodankar.
