PANAJI
Further, the party has demanded a high-level inquiry under the supervision of a retired high court judge to probe the wastage of tonnes of tur dal and sugar, and sacking of the then minister responsible for the same.
Also, Congress has demanded that the government should be directed to come out with a white paper on the rising unemployment in the State.
The three demands were made after a delegation of the Congress comprising Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Amit Patkar met the Governor at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday, along with five MLAs, Quepem MLA Altone D'Costa, Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar, St Cruz MLA Rudolf Fernandes, Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira, Cuncolim MLA Yuri Alemao and senior vice president M K Shaikh.
WORK AT MHADEI RIVER
Speaking to reporters after submitting the memorandum, Patkar said Congress has requested the Governor to personally visit the construction sites along the River Mhadei basin along with authorities concerned and find out why work is still undertaken by Karnataka despite the matter being sub-judice.
“It appears that the State government is intentionally turning a blind eye to activities of Karnataka. Your visit will help to get a first-hand report and the government will be compelled to act against the illegal works carried out by Karnataka,” the memorandum by Congress states.
TUR DAL, SUGAR WASTE
On the wastage of 242 tonnes of tur dal and 10 tonnes of sugar, Patkar said, “We have requested that a retired high court judge be appointed to inquire into the matter, and the minister along with the officials involved be sacked for the criminal wastage of food items.”
“On one side, the Centre is importing thousands of tonnes of tur dal but on the other side Goa is wasting it,” he pointed out.
UNEMPLOYMENT
Finally, Congress has demanded that the State government should be asked to come out with a white paper on the employment scenario in the State giving the correct facts and figures.
“The Centre for Monitoring of Indian Economy states that, as of May, unemployment ratio of Goa stood at 13.4% as opposed to national average of 7.12%,” Patkar pointed out while lambasting Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for giving false assurances to the youth, at every election, that jobs would be provided.
