PERNEM
The Congress party’s taluka-wise “Jan Akrosh” agitation began in Pernem on Thursday, with Congress leaders launching a scathing attack on the BJP and passed a resolution demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and the dismissal of his government.
Addressing party workers at the old bus stand (taxi stand) in Pernem on Thursday morning, All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary and in-charge of Goa Desk Dr A Chella Kumar accusing the BJP of murdering democracy by retaining a seriously ailing Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar at the helm of affairs.
“The BJP is murdering democracy in Goa. It is high time that every Goan should come forward and send this BJP-led government back home.”
“The BJP is fooling people and Manohar Parrikar should resign as chief minister before the people of Goa protest on the streets. Else, the governor must dismiss her government,” said Dr A Chella Kumar.
GPCC President Girish Chodankar claimed that Parrikar was so unwell that he could not move and speak.
“Someone from the administration is signing files in his name. His signature is being forged. The Congress party demands an inquiry into this fraud. If it is not revealed who is running the administration on behalf of Parrikar, the Congress party will bring it before the public,” said Chodankar.
Former chief minister and Margao MLA Digambar Kamat said the people of Goa had not given a mandate to the BJP in the 2017 assembly polls.
“They managed to grab power through the backdoor and by taking two Congress MLAs in their party, they have murdered democracy.”
“People are fed up with the BJP and Jan Akrosh meeting is organised to express this anger, which began at Pernem today and will end in Margao on December 20,” said Kamat.
Former union minister Ramakant Khalap said the BJP-led government had brought people on the streets in protest.
Former minister Sangeeta Parab claimed there was no governance in the State and said democracy is on verge of collapse.
“People of Goa are now determined to overthrow this corrupt and inefficient government,” said Parab.
Congress Vice-President Babi Bagkar said the government had failed on all fronts to solve the problems faced by the common people.
Others who spoke at the meeting included Sachin Parab, Subhash Parab, Umesh Talavnekar, Rajan Ghate, Vijay Bhike and Narayan Redkar.
Congress North Goa Secretary Subhash Kerkar and North Goa Congress Women’s Cell President Vaishali Shetgaonkar were among those present at the meeting.
