Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar on Sunday strongly criticised the BJP-led Central government, alleging that it had failed to stop examination paper leaks and had become a “haven for culprits” responsible for the crisis affecting students across the country.
Addressing a press conference, Chodankar claimed that around 152 paper leak cases had been reported over the past decade, causing severe mental stress for students and their families. He also demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, holding him responsible for the repeated examination irregularities.
“Every household has students. Repeated paper leaks have left them under constant stress. Despite 152 cases in the last ten years, there has not been a single conviction. This shows the BJP has become a haven for those responsible,” he alleged.
Referring to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s “Chhatron Ki Goonj” programme in Dehradun, Chodankar said the initiative highlighted serious flaws in the country’s examination system and reflected the growing frustration among students.
He claimed that nearly 7.5 crore students had appeared for various entrance examinations over the past decade and said paper leaks undermine merit and deny deserving candidates a fair opportunity.
Chodankar further alleged that around 25 students had died by suicide due to the stress linked to paper leak incidents and urged the government to conduct examinations in a fair and transparent manner.
Appealing to students to join Rahul Gandhi’s “Save Education, Save Your Future” campaign, Chodankar said the movement aimed to protect students’ futures and restore public confidence in the examination system.
Chodankar accuses BJP of misleading tribals on reservation
PANAJI: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) chief Girish Chodankar on Sunday accused the BJP of misleading the Scheduled Tribe (ST) community over political reservation, claiming the party had no real intention of providing it. He said the BJP’s promises were “jumlas” and alleged tribals would again be deceived before the 2027 Assembly elections. Chodankar also criticised the removal of former minister Govind Gaude from the Cabinet, calling it proof of the BJP’s attitude towards tribal leaders. He said Congress would address ST political reservation if voted to power and would select its 2027 Assembly candidates based on grassroots support and winnability.
