PANAJI: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee Media & Communication Chairman Amarnath Panjikar has demanded an independent, time-bound inquiry into alleged cash economy at Colvale Central Jail after the report by The Goan Everyday highlighting informal food business, diversion of government supplies and unauthorised items being brought into the jail
In an official letter, Panjikar cited the allegations of Rs 7,000 tandoori meals, Rs 1,000 fried rice, Rs 500 fish and coriander, along with payments for bringing unauthorised items such as televisions into the jail.
Panjikar said the allegations raise serious questions about prison security, supervision and accountability and urged Chief Minister and Home Minister Pramod Sawant to order an impartial investigation.
He called for examination of CCTV footage, gate-entry records, visitor registers, kitchen and mess records, ration-stock registers and procurement documents, besides a complete audit of government-supplied food provisions.
“If the allegations are false, establish the truth. If they are true, fix responsibility and take action irrespective of rank or position,” Panjikar said.
