Congress fears dissolution of Assembly

Writes to the President in a bid to form government

As the state stares at a minority government, chief minister Manohar Parrikar might opt to dissolve the Assembly. GPCC president Girish Chodankar has written to President Ramnath Kovind stating that dissolving the Assembly while sidelining Goa’s biggest political party will be an insult to the constitution, and Congress could prove majority if given a chance.

The government in Goa is virtually absent, and the administration has collapsed completely. The government has lost confidence of the people and is in minority. Congress, which is the largest party in the assembly is ready to provide a stable government, and if given a chance, will prove majority in the House, Chodankar has stated in his letter.

Chief Minister Parrikar had in the past dissolved the Assembly by unlawful means via a cabinet resolution. The same process might be repeated again, the Congress has stated, and requested President Kovind to instruct and guide the Governor so as to protect the sanctity of the Constitution and avoid dissolution of the Assembly. Further on, the party has requested the President to keep an eye on political developments in Goa.
