Attacking the Goa Forward party for interfering in Cuncolim constituency, Congress MLA Clafacio Dias on Wednesday dared Goa Forward chief and TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai to stop the Mopa airport, stop import of fish laced with formalin from outside and honour the Father of Opinion Poll by installing Dr Jack de Sequeira’s statue in the Goa Assembly complex.
Cautioning Sardesai not to flex his muscles just because he enjoys the power in the coalition government, the Cuncolim MLA said God will take care of all those levelling allegations against him, saying the TCP Minister should take up work in constituencies where the MLAs are sick and in hospitals instead of interfering in Cuncolim.
“Sardesai had in 2012 promised the people of Goa, including Salcete, that he would stop the Mopa airport. He is silent on the airport now despite enjoying power,” Clafacio told the media on Wednesday in the presence of Cuncolim Municipal Chairperson Lavita Mascarenhas, Congress block president Landry Mascarenhas, Mahila Congress chief Georgina Gama, Paroda panch Deepak Kharangate and others.
The MLA demanded to know why is Sardesai silent on the popular demand of Goans to stop the import of outside fish into Goa. And, he questioned the TCP Minister over his promise to get the statue of Dr Jack de Sequeira installed in the Goa Assembly complex.
“Instead of resolving these issues, Sardesai is involving in Cuncolim with Joaquim Alemao, who has twice been rejected from the constituency. I know my responsibilities as an MLA. If the TCP Minister is stopping my development, I will continue to do my work as per my capacity,” Clafacio said, asserting that he would not only re-contest from
Cuncolim, but will retain the seat with the support of the people.
The Congress MLA further told the Goa Forward chief that he would not succeed in his mission to finish the Congress party in Salcete, saying the people of Salcete will teach him a lesson in the coming election.
Congress block President Landry Mascarenhas said former MLA Joaquim Alemao should explain to the people of Cuncolim about the crumbling power infrastructure in the municipal area despite representing the constituency for 10 years. “People of Cuncolim have now managed to get the power infrastructure after taking on to the streets,” he added.
Mahila Congress chief Georgina Gama condemned the attempts by Goa Forward to belittle the Cuncolim MLA, saying people of Cuncolim have full trust in Clafacio that he would fulfill his promises before the expiry of the five-year term.
