With the BJP government Monday assuming office under the leadership of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, the Congress has called for a meeting of the Party Legislative wing on Tuesday to elect the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader.
A meeting of the Congress MLAs has been called at the Assembly complex on Tuesday at 10.30 am.
Sources in the principal opposition party said at least two leaders, including outgoing opposition leader Digambar Kamat and Michael Lobo, have emerged as frontrunners for the coveted post. The name of heavyweight Aleixo Sequeira is also not ruled out in political circles.
AICC observer Rajni Patil, who was drafted by none other than Congress president Sonia Gandhi to assess the reasons behind the party's electoral debacle in Goa and seek inputs from leaders and workers on the appointment of GPCC president and CLP leader was scheduled to submit her report to the leadership.
It's not clear whether the party has deputed any central leaders to oversee the election of the new CLP leader.
