A delegation of thirteen Congress MLAs and party leaders called on Governor Mridula Sinha on Friday noon demanding that she dismiss the current BJP-led coalition government and instead invite the single largest party -- the Congress to form the government.
The meeting which was sought by the Congress and promoted by the Governor of Karnataka ignoring the claims of the Congress-JD(S) post-poll combine and instead of calling the single largest party, also saw a huge group of Congress supporters accompany their MLAs as they marched to the Governor.
In their memorandum to the Governor, Leader of Opposition Chandrakant “Babu” Kavlekar said that the party even as of today is the single largest party and called on the Governor of “rectify her mistake” of March last year.
“Even as on date, the Congress is the single largest party in the State Legislative Assembly having 16 elected representatives. Despite being the single largest party, Manohar Parrikar was invited to be the Chief Minister and administered the oath of office and secrecy and consequently, the government headed by Parrikar was constituted,” Kavlekar said in his letter.
