Congress names Girish Chodankar ‘permanent invitee’ to CWC

Former Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president, Girish Chodankar, was named “Permanent Invitee” to the Congress Working Committee (CWC) in a rejig of the party’s highest decision making body announced on Sunday.

He is one of 18 ‘permanent invitees’ to the CWC. In addition, 14 other leaders who are in-charges of party affairs in States are also ex-officio ‘permanent invitees’ to the CWC as are the national chiefs of the frontal organisations.

The top Congress body is headed by the national president Malikarjun Kharge and includes Sonia Gandhi, former prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and several other prominent leaders like P Chidambaram, Jairam Ramesh and Digvijay Singh among others.

Notable inclusions in the CWC are Kerala MP, Shashi Tharoor and Rajasthan leader Sachin Pilot.

Meanwhile, Chodankar’s inclusion in the CWC as ‘permanent invitee’ earned him praise from the State Congress unit with GPCC chief, Amit Patkar and Leader of the Opposition, Yuri Alemao, taking to X (formerly Twitter) to express their congratulations and best wishes.

“Wishing @girishgoa for being appointed as permanent invitee to @INCIndia CWC. Best wishes,” Patkar tweeted.

Alemao in his tweet said: “Congratulations to former President of @INCGoa Bab @girishgoa on your appointment as Permanent Invitee on Congress Working Committee by @INCIndia President Bab @kharge. My best wishes.”

Known to be close to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, he had recently been appointed co-incharge of the party affairs in poll-bound Telengana for the ‘Hath Se Hath Jodo’ programme.

GPCC media cell chairman, Amarnath Panjikar, said, it is proud moment for Congress workers in the State as a common man like Girish Chodankar has got place in the CWC.

“I am thankful to our leader Rahul Gandhi and senior Congress leaders for giving Goa an opportunity on CWC,” Panjikar said, adding that Chodankar has been working in the interest of the Bahujan Samaj for several years and it is an honour to this samaj.
