Centre’s rejection of the long-pending demand for political reservations for the Scheduled Tribes before the 2027 Assembly polls echoed at the gram sabha meeting of the Rachol village panchayat on Sunday.

The gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Joseph Vaz saw the members adopting a resolution condemning the State and Central government for misguiding and denying the political reservation in Assembly for Scheduled Tribes in Goa before 2024.

The meeting accused the State and the Centre for cheating and playing with sentiments of the tribal communities in the State. The gram sabha adopted a unanimous resolution demanding the immediate implementation of political reservation in the Goa Legislative Assembly as assured by the government in last concluded Assembly.

Later, briefing the media, Sarpanch Joseph said the Rachol gram sabha was unanimous in its decision that the State and Central government should not waste any time in implementing the Constitutional mandate for political reservation for the tribal communities.

He said the gram sabha also discussed a host of issues and development proposals which were proposed by village development committee (VDC) under GPDP to be taken up under different departments in the Rachol village by utilising various funds released to panchayat.

Some of the works proposed, he said, includes construction, repairs/ maintenance/ black topping of existing village roads in all the five wards, construction of balwadi, recreation and sports rooms, daycare/UMID care centre. Other projects include construction of protective walls, retaining walls, etc,” he said.
