The Director General of Police (DGP) Muktesh Chander (IPS) on Tuesday assured that action would be taken in the Lester D’Souza assault case before November 22, i.e. before the next ISL match.

The DGP gave this assurance to the Goa Pradesh Youth Congress (GPYC) who submitted a memorandum demanding an investigation and action in the 20-year-old football fan Lester D’Souza assault case that took place on November 8.

Narrating the brutal attack on the D’Souza family in the Fatorda stadium after the ISL match on November 8, the memorandum signed by Goa Pradesh Youth Congress president Varad Mardolkar stated that there is widespread resentment amongst Goans against the manner of assault and the serious injuries caused to Lester who is still in hospital undergoing treatment.

Further, the memorandum also talked about the irreparable psychological damage caused to the whole family who were humiliated in front of thousands of spectators.

“Apart from serious physical injuries suffered by Lester, it is beyond our imagination the mental torture and humiliation the D’Souza family is undergoing right now and which they will continue to suffer in the years to come, which is a more serious and irreparable loss,” stated the memorandum.

In light of the assault and its aftermath, the Goa Pradesh Youth Congress demanded a thorough investigation into the incident.

On concluding the meeting with the Director General of Police, GPYC members

told media persons that the DGP assured them that action would be taken against police personnel found guilty.

“The DGP also called the SDPO (Margao) and asked for a detailed report of the case within two days,” said Mardolkar, adding that the DGP admitted that since the police personnel were not in uniform at the time of the incident, they could not be identified as police officers, which led to the confusion.

The Goa Pradesh Youth Congress delegation was led by president Adv Varad Mardolkar, and General Secreatry Gautam Bhagat, while other members Vivek D’Silva, Adv Prathamesh Tulaskar, Amarnath Panjikar, Janardan Bhandari were also present.
