The Opposition Congress on Monday announced that it will launch a ‘Brashtachar Virodhi Zagor’ on Wednesday and rally the people of Goa against the mass scale corruption of the Manohar Parrikar government.

Opposition Leader Chandrakant Kavlekar announced after a Congress Legislature Party meeting that the party will mobilise and hold a massive rally from the Dayanand Bandodkar ground, which was destroyed by Parrikar, to the iconic Azad Maidan and expose the plethora of scams perpetrated by the government and the cabinet ministers.

Kavlekar listed the mining scam related to the illegal renewal of 88 leases by Parrikar and former CM Laximikant Parsekar, the formalin-in-fish scam, the drugs cover-up following seizure of ketamine from a BJP office bearer’s premises, the beach cleaning scam and the leasing of GTDC properties to private parties among others.

Flanked by GPCC chief Girish Chodankar and MLAs Nilkanth Halarnkar, Isidore Fernandes, Digambar Kamat and Pratapsing Rane among others, Kavlekar said the party has decided to take the issue of corruption and non-performance of the government to the People’s Court.

The Governor is not responding to our repeated requests to take action and ensure the government performs. We have no choice but to take the battle to the people and pressurise the Governor to act,” Kavlekar said.

Chodankar, meanwhile, said that through the agitation the party will demand that the Governor direct registration of FIR against Parrikar and Parsekar for the illegal renewal of the 88 mining leases which were struck down by the Supreme Court.

The party will meet the Governor on Wednesday after the rally and place the demands before her, Chodankar added.
