Political developments took centre stage at a mega blood donation camp organised by the Lions Club of Majorda, Cansaulim and Velsao at Queeny Nagar on Sunday, with Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Girish Chodankar saying alliance talks with the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) had been finalised, while discussions with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) were continuing.
Chodankar, who attended the camp as chief guest, said the talks were driven by public sentiment favouring the coming together of like-minded parties ahead of the Assembly elections. He said the objective was to unite forces sharing common concerns and provide a stronger alternative to the BJP.
He said the Congress was open to broader coordination if it reflected public aspirations and helped consolidate the anti-BJP vote.
Monteiro signals electoral bid
Meanwhile, social worker Lyndon Monteiro announced that he would contest the upcoming Assembly elections. Monteiro said he was in talks with several political parties and would contest on the platform of a non-BJP party. His announcement comes amid efforts by opposition parties to work out electoral arrangements.
The political statements came on the sidelines of the blood donation camp, which saw participation from donors and dignitaries, including Monteiro and social worker Roquezinho D’Souza.
Roquezinho D’Souza urged regular blood donation, saying donated blood is vital for accident victims and patients needing urgent treatment. He stressed that blood cannot be manufactured and appealed to people to donate regularly.
