VALPOI
Even as it is over a month that schools have begun online classes, students in Sattari taluka continue to grapple with the issue of connectivity with the network playing truant in several areas.
Last month, students from Satare, Derode and Kodal areas of Nagargaon panchayat after staging a protest at Valpoi BSNL office were assured of a solution within a week, but till date the situation remains the same. On Saturday, angry students once again marched to the Valpoi office and gheraoed officials.
It is learnt that connectivity is still a big issue in many rural areas of Sattari and students have to travel to far off places in search of network or even climb hills.
The students had also made a representation to the Health Minister who had assured to take up the matter with BSNL.
Panchayat member Laxman Gavas disclosed that Health Minister had discussed the matter with senior officials of BSNL.
He had reportedly told officials that for a seamless network it is imperative to set up mini towers at three places.
Mini towers have already been set up at Satare and Kodal but are yet to be connected by the underground cable at Derode.
“This cable is not available at the moment due to the prevailing Covid situation”, Gavas said adding, “it is likely to be brought in the next eight days and the actual work will start later”.
Recently, a memorandum was also submitted by the MGP and the Valpoi Mahila Congress Samiti to the Deputy Collector of Sattari taluka.
