Contribute towards society, Arlekar exhorts students

Panchayat Minister Rajendra Arlekar on Sunday said the present education system has become memory test, where students try to secure a lot of marks, but later they forget their responsibility towards society.

“Merely learning the lessons by rote will not help, let us give some space to society in our hearts.”   
He was speaking while honouring SSC and HSSC students at Dharbandora. He also launched the website of Dharbandora Panchayat in the presence of Sanvordem MLA Ganesh Gaonkar.   
Dharbandora ZP Govind Gaonkar, Sanvordem ZP Suvarna Tendulkar, Dharbandora sarpanch Vinayak alias Balaji Gawas, Sacorda sarpanch Jitendra Naik, Kirlpal Dabal sarpanch Deepak Pawaskar, Dharbandora panchas Kalidas Mainekar, Guru Gaonkar, Shamba Gawade and others were present.   
Retired teacher Shanker Budake, teacher Surekha Naik and Mamlatdar Satish Prabhu, who served in Dharbandora, were felicitated for their contribution to society.   
“We see lot of changes in the education sector. In the present era, students score more than our expectations. But after they pass out from educational institutes, they fail to contribute towards society,” Arlekar lamented, and advised students to make their contribution in society.   
“Education has become a mere memory test. Let us get out of it. Let us use our education for society,” he added.   
While applauding the endeavours of Dharbandora Panchayat, Arlekar said it is very good initiative to launch the website. “Online services are really helpful. We have decided to connect the Directorate of Panchayat with all the panchayats. By this way we can undertake video conferencing with secretaries and panchas,” he said.   
Ganesh Gaonkar termed it as a very good initiative by the panchayat which will save time of people.   
“Now, everything will be uploaded on the website. So people will save time by just visiting the website for any official work,” he said.   
He suggested commencing online revenue collection on the website as well.   
Sarpanch Balaji Gawas spoke about the website and its services, while Secretary Gokuldas Kudalkar compered the programme.

Illegal kiosks make quiet entry at Margao

The gadda mafia is back in the commercial capital once again. Around a month after an abortive attempt was made to install a new gadda at the pick up stand, two kiosks have come up near the KTC bus stand recently.
