Claiming to have filed an application seeking a review of order before the Secretary (Panchayats) in connection with the Mini India Park Project, the Quelossim panchayat has accused the project proponent of being adamant on pursuing the project despite being aware of the laws that govern wetlands (Khazan land).
In a joint press statement, Quelossim Sarpanch Maria Souza and Deputy Sarpanch Sebastiao Serrao informed residents of Quelossim that the panchayat had written an application on April 22 seeking a review of the order dated March 19, before the Secretary (Panchayats) at the Secretariat in connection with the Mini India Park Project and was awaiting a reply in the matter.
“The order by the Secretary (Panchayats) confirms the order passed by the Additional Director of Panchayats- II, Margao, November 7, 2018, directing the Quelossim Panchayat to communicate with the petitioner regarding its query on whether permission from the panchayat concerned is required to assemble a floating platform.”
“It is amazing that the Secretary (Panchayats) could confirm this order in spite of the absence of the Quelossim Panchayat representatives who were not intimated about the hearing and go ahead and confirm the order dated November 7, 2018,” stated the press note. The Quelossim sarpanch said the Mini India Park Project is proposed in a wetland and therefore in a NDZ (No Development Zone) area as per the law.
“Therefore, the Investment Promotion Board via Order dated January 12, 2018, withdrew the ‘in-principle‘ approval granted to the project.”
“Subsequently, the Quelossim Panchayat also revoked the provisional NOC granted to the company to set up of an Eco-recreational Floating Platform for Park/Mini India Park, with 5-star category resort, house boats, floating cottages and water sports in Quelossim, as per a panchayat resolution dated January 30, 2018, which was intimated to the company in a letter dated March 1, 2018.”
