MARGAO
Just imagine a situation when a bus you are about to travel is full of mosquitoes and its door cannot be opened since it is broken and tied with a string.
This is what exactly happened in an AC shuttle bus on the Margao-Panaji route when passengers found to their shock and surprise that mosquitoes had literally invaded the bus.
Consumer rights activist Roland Martins, who was one of the passengers, immediately drew the attention of the KTC top brass, including Chairman Carlos Almeida via an SMS, seeking their intervention in the matter to rectify the faults.
“I was travelling in an AC shuttle from Margao to Panaji on Wednesday morning which was full of mosquitoes. When I asked the driver to open the main door for mosquitoes to go out, he replied saying it’s not possible as the door is broken and is tied with a string,” Roland told The Goan.
He added, “When I questioned the official at the ticket counter about the state of the bus, he told me that this is how it is and that he couldn’t do anything in the matter”.
Roland said he immediately sent an SMS about the state of affairs to KTC GM Ghate, MD Neto, besides Chairman Carlos Almeida with a plea to look into the matter and take action.
“Like the Margao Bus Stand, it looks like the Margao depot is also in a deplorable condition and this is the state of the buses made available to shuttle passengers. There is an urgent need for KTC officials from the head office to visit the Margao depot for a surprise inspection lest consumers start taking action against KTCL under the Consumer Protection Act,” Roland warned.
