At the receiving end of high-handed behaviour of tourist cabbies, drivers of the GoaMiles app-based taxi service have begun filing police complaints of attacks
on them.
A first such FIR was booked at the Anjuna police station last week.
A GoaMiles driver, Moinuddin Komarsikappa of Navelim, filed a complaint on Friday last accusing some 10-15 unknown taxi drivers of physically restraining and threatening him with dire consequences after a customer had boarded his taxi at the Double Tree resort.
Anjuna police have registered the FIR and booked offences under sections 143, 147, 341, 504, 506(ii) read with section 149 of the Indian Penal Code against unknown persons. PSI VV Chodankar is investigating the case.
Moinuddin claimed in the FIR that after dropping off a customer at the Baga beach, he got a call that another customer had requisitioned a cab through the app. He accordingly headed to the Double Tree resort and picked up the passenger when he was accosted by the unruly crowd of about 10-15 taxi drivers.
Meanwhile J Sumeth of GoaMiles said, “We are deeply concerned about the safety and security of our personnel and passengers opting for our services. This allegedled unruly behavior of a certain disgruntled section of taxi operators will not be acceptable nor will it deter us from getting stern action taken under the law. We are also moving the transport department to take necessary action against the culprits.”
GoaMiles was launched in August this year and claims to have around 1000-odd taxis registered with them.
