Cops launch probe into suicide case; final rites held

MARGAO
The mortal remains of noted Margao-based lawyer, Adv Jayant Prabhu, who ended his life two days ago by committing suicide has been finally cremated at the Pajifond crematorium on Saturday.

In the meantime, the Goa police said the police have initiated investigations into the suicide note left behind by Jayant Prabhu blaming Margao lady PSI Anushka Parab and constables for his suicide.

The family members took possession of his body, which was preserved at the mortuary of the South Goa District Hospital after post-mortem examination. The family had earlier refused to take possession of the body on Friday till the police register an FIR against the Lady PSI and constables.

Margao police informed that the family members took possession of the mortal remains on Saturday, before they were cremated at the Pajifond crematorium.

Meanwhile, Sub-Divisional Police Officer, DySP Santosh Desai informed that after registering an FIR against the Lady PSI and the constables, the Maina-Curtorim police have initiated investigations into the case.

The police were forced to register FIR against the Lady PSI and the constables after city lawyers along with Prabhu’s son Ashish and relatives insisted on registering the FIR against the erring police officials. They pointed out that deceased Prabhu had categorically stated in his suicide note blaming the lady PSI and constables for his suicide since they had behaved rudely with him.

The police, on the other hand, have maintained that police team led by the lady PSI Anushka Parab had gone to Prabhu’s residence late in the evening in search of his lawyer son, against whom an FIR stands registered at the Margao police station for allegedly stalking a lady lawyer.
