Burglars broke into two wine stores housed in the same building at Karrasvaddo, Mapusa, but alert police managed to track them down within hours and apprehended two persons and even recovered part of the stolen goods.
The burglars had decamped with cash of Rs 18,500 and wine bottles worth Rs 80,0000 from both the wine stores.
Mapusa police received a call from the complainant in the case, Subhas Adnekar, at around 3.30 pm informing them about unknown culprits gaining entry into his shop by bending the front shutter at Asma Arcade, Karrasvaddo and stealing cash of Rs 3,500 and liquor bottles worth Rs 40,000.
In the second complaint received at around 5 pm, Rajesh Halarnkar stated that his shop in the same building was broken into by bending the front shutter and cash of Rs 15,000 and liquor bottles worth Rs 40,000 were stolen.
Police had registered both the cases under section 457 (housebreaking) and 380 (theft) of the IPC.
They swung into action and arrested the two accused involved in the burglary “ Jitesh Sahani native of Sangli and Chandan Singh native of Mumbai, both presently residing at Karrasvaddo -- and also managed to recover part of the stolen property.
The team consisted of PSI Ashish Parab, ASI Suryakant Shetye, PCs Rajesh Kanolkar, Sarvesh Mandrekar and Akshay Patil.
