MARGAO
Losing their cool and patience at the violations of the lockdown in the SGPDA market, the Fatorda police on Tuesday made some vendors do sit-ups as punishment for their failure to pay heed to the call to keep their shutters closed.
The Fatorda police are enforcing the South Goa district collector’s order very strictly.
Meanwhile, a group of meat stall owners from the SGPDA market called on the authorities with a plea to allow them to open the stalls or to deliver the meat items as takeaways since they do not strictly come under the market.
A number of shoppers made their presence felt in the SGPDA market around the meat stalls, but returned home disappointed after finding the beef, chicken and mutton shops closed.
Meanwhile, the Margao police made their presence felt in the New Market and Gandhi Market areas of the city on Tuesday morning to stop the wholesale mango trade.
The police also entered the Gandhi Market following reports that some unscrupulous vendors were selling vegetables in the market early Tuesday morning.
