Cops stop operating Delfino Mart traffic signals

The traffic signal near Delfino Mart at Porvorim has stopped functioning from September 2 much to the dismay of the commuters.
Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte had inaugurated the traffic signal on August 22, with much enthusiasm. While everything was going on smoothly, the traffic police department stopped operation of the traffic signal after 12 days.
When contacted, Traffic Police Inspector Salim Sheikh said the traffic signal near Delfino Mart was started hastily.
“No stop line, which is the mandatory stopping point for the vehicles, and zebra crossing lines meant for pedestrian crossing were not drawn prior to the commencement of the traffic signal, due to which the traffic police on duty at the signal experienced a lot of difficulties in regulating vehicular traffic,” said Sheikh.
“Since the vacation has started, the vehicular traffic has also increased along the Mapusa-Panaji road. The traffic police department has conveyed its difficulties to the Collector and sought permission from him to draw the stop line, zebra crossing sign, etc, at the traffic signal. As soon as this is done, the traffic signal will be put back in operation,” said Sheikh.
