Curchorem bazaar abuzz with Chaturthi activity

The Hindu community in Sanguem, Curchorem and Quepem talukas are set to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi on Monday.
Locals from Sanguem, Curchorem and Quepem talukas were busy making their festive purchases in Curchorem Bazaar on Sunday.
Curchorem town is an economically and strategically important town for nearby regions in Sanguem, Quepem and Dharbandora. Locals from other parts of Goa, who are employed in Sanguem and Curchorem, also feel comfortable to do their Chaturthi shopping in Curchorem as they can then carry their commodities with them on the train without much trouble.
Every year during Ganesh festival, the Curchorem Bazaar is flooded with flowers, garlands, decorative items, Ganesh idols, electronic goods, fire crackers, etc.
Locals from various places visit Curchorem to buy clothes, fruits and other festive goods which they claim to get at reasonable prices.
Speaking to The Goan, Arun Kosambe from Sanguem said, “Since many years, Curchorem Bazaar has proven to be the a big asset in Curchorem town. Many people from Goa buy clothes and other household commodities in Curchorem. During the Chaturthi, locals from Sanguem taluka also go to Curchorem for shopping.”
Prajoti Dessai from Xelvona said that women from nearby villages get enough opportunity to sell their home-grown vegetables, decorative items and earn some money.
Gajanan Redkar from Vasco said he works as a mason and it becomes convenient for him to do festival shopping in Curchorem as rates are affordable. “The same shopping in Vasco and other places would cost much more. It is also beneficial as the railway fare is cheap and we get enough space to carry our goods in the local train,” he added.
