No-trust move at Siolim fizzles out

In a surprising development, the no-confidence motion moved by five panchas against the sarpanch and deputy sarpanch of Siolim-Marna Panchayat was defeated on Thursday after one member from the group failed to attend the meeting.
The no-trust motion fizzled out after Alba Sequeira, the panch who had moved out from the ruling group and signed the no-trust motion along with the opposition group of four remained absent.
In the nine-member Siolim-Marna Panchayat, five members “ Digambar Agarvadekar, Simple Dhargalkar, Savita Govekar, Anita Chari and Alba Sequeira “ had moved a no-confidence motion against Sarpanch Sylvester Fernandes and Deputy Sarpanch Poonam Shirodkar.
On Thursday, only four members of the opposition group “ Digambar Agarvadekar, Simple Dhargalkar, Savita Govekar and Anita Chari remained present for the meeting.
From the other group only two members “ Vinod Palyekar, Vignesh Chodankar were present but did not participate in the meeting.
Sarpanch Sylvester Fernandes and Deputy Sarpanch Poonam Shirodkar remained absent.
“Since the group that moved the no-trust motion failed to prove majority of five members on the floor, the motion was defeated,” said Suryajirao Rane, who was the observer at the meeting.
Sources told The Goan that Sarpanch Sylvester Fernandes managed to win over the disgruntled member Alba Sequeira to save his chair.
