Goa churches celebrate Mother's sainthood

PANAJI

Goans went agog as Mother Teresa was declared saint by Pope Francis at the Vatican on Sunday.

People from all walks of life were glued to their TV sets witnessing the ceremony even as churches and chapels across the State held special prayer services and masses devoted to her.

The church bells pealed while firecrackers were burnt at several places signalling the declaration of Mother Teresa as St Teresa of Calcutta.

Parish priest in their homilies recalled the life of Saint Teresa and urged the laity to follow the footsteps of the humble Mother.

Archbishop of Goa and Daman, Rev Fr Filipe Neri Ferrao, who is currently in the Vatican, had issued a circular asking all parishes to celebrate the canonisation of Mother Teresa.
