Ponda Police arrested a native of Orissa on charges of possessing ganja worth Rs 2.50 lakh at KTC bus stand, Ponda.
Ponda Police seized ganja weighing 4.950 kgs from Epun Khansama late Saturday evening. The accused has been remanded to five days police custody.
Police said that acting on a tip-off, they rushed to the site and nabbed the accused while he was proceeding towards the bus stand.
Ponda Police have registered an offence under Section 20 (b)(II)(A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985. Police is further investigating the case.
It may be recalled that in the first week of August, Ponda Police had seized ganja weighing 3.875 kgs from Ramesh Prassad Sahu at Bhoma-Priol.
Sources informed that ganja is largely supplied in industrial estates in Ponda taluka. The drug peddlers are targeting non-Goan labour class working in industrial estates.
