PANAJI: Nearly 20 days after the Chief Minister declared the state as open defecation free (ODF), Panaji mayor Uday Madkaikar has blown the balloon of ODF.
The mayor on Thursday alleged that the ex-commissioner of CCP Shashank Tripathy had taken signatures from all the corporators that their wards are ODF giving a false promise that bio-toilets will be installed in the corporation jurisdiction.
"The commissioner has not kept his promise of fitting around 310 bio-toilets. Not a single bio-toilet has been installed in the city yet," said Madkaikar in a press conference on Thursday.
When contacted for a comment and asked for the present status about the bio-toilets installation and ODF, CCP ex-commissioner Shashank Tripathy and present commissioner Sanjith Rodrigues refused to comment.
It may be recalled that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had hurriedly declared the state as 100 percent open defecation free on August 30.
However, a few days before declaring the state as ODF, the CM has reprimanded sarpanchas of many panchayats in the state for failing to make their areas open defecation free.
A few days earlier, sarpanch of Sacorda had also said that he was forced to sign the certificate stating that his village was ODF.
