Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha on Saturday said that the raised drainage along either sides of the road below the new Zuari bridge between Cortalim Circle to Thana Cross must be got down to road level.

Saldanha was speaking to reporters after carrying out a joint inspection of the area in the presence of PWD officials, DBL officials, Cortalim Sarpanch Senia Pereira and a large number of locals who had placed their grievances before her.

Speaking to reporters, Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha said that the raised drainage on either side of  the roads below the Zuari bridge from Cortalim Circle to Thana Cross had caused concerns for many residents living on either side of the road who were finding it difficult to access their houses and move their vehicles in and out of the houses.

"There are many essential issues that have been presented to me and I have taken up with the DBL. The issues range from access of people to their houses and the access of vehicles of the people living here all their lives.

"Nowadays everyone possesses a vehicle and now the gutters have been constructed along the highway and the drainages have been raised leaving the houses along both sides much below the level of the road  making it difficult for the people and the vehicles to move into the houses. There are also dividers that are constructed on the road below the bridge and hence people cannot park below the bridge nor can they take the vehicles into the houses since the drainage has been raised leaving a question as to where the vehicles of the people living along the road will be parked," said Saldanha.

"People have demanded that the drainage be razed and got to the level of the road. They have also demanded that the access be provided to the people to pass from one side of the road to another and this access should be spaced out properly at different intervals between Cortalim Circle till Thana Cross . Thirdly there is certain infrastructure like a well that houses from both sides of the road are depending on and the people have demanded access to the wells. All the demands are now put forward to the DBL and they have primarily agreed upon and we have been informed that they will let us know in a few days how these demands can be fulfilled by them," said Saldanha.

"I will also convey the demands of the people on either side of the road to the PWD and I will also write to the PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar and place these demands before him for his consideration," said Saldanha.
