Famous industrialist Blaise Costabir has become the new chairman of CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) - Goa State Council for the year 2020-21. Costabir has taken over from the previous chairman, Lalit Saraswat.
The announcement was made at CII Goa Annual Session at the hotel Taj Vivanta in Panaji. The event saw the presence of a number of businessmen including Shrinivas Dempo, Kirit Maganlal, Shekhar Sardessai, etc.
Costabir is the managing director of GMI Zarhak Moulders Pvt Ltd, which manufactures well-known storage tank ‘Shakti’. He is a first generation entrepreneur and also an alumnus of the Asian Institute of Management.
Industrialists complimented him for taking over the role of the CII-Goa’s chairman and also praised Saraswat for his tenure during the previous year.
CII-Goa plays an important role in helping local industrialists network with their counterparts in other parts of India and also abroad. It also gives valuable suggestions to the State Government for policy formation.
Speaking on the occasion, Shrinivas Dempo, chairman, Dempo Group of Companies, said, “We need to look at sustainable industries in Goa. For a lot of years, we did mining and Goa benefited a lot from it. It’s a challenge for business fraternity to see how we can do sustainable mining over the next 5 decades.”
Dempo continued, “The new generation of people, who are getting into the job market, have different expectations. We need to create an ecosystem so that they get right kind of jobs.”
